Building Technology

  • This area of study prepares students for a profession within the Construction Industry. A few of these professions are:
    • Architectural Engineer
    • Structural Engineer

  • The aim of business studies is to help students acquire knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes of business, accounting, procedures and principles necessary for occupational mobility and increased competence and confidence in coping with aspects of the working world.

Clothing and Textile

  • The Clothing and Textile option prepares students for flexibility in the work place and for the furthering of studies at the tertiary level.  Some occupations that may be achieved are:

  • Pattern maker
  • Fashion designer

  • Cutter of samples
  • Production manager
  • Line supervisors

Electrical Technology

  • Students who pursue Electrical Technology option are geared towards taking the C.X.C and S.S.C exams. Upon successfully completion they can be employed as apprentices to electrician and can do general electrical word unsupervised.

Secretarial Studies
The aim of Secretarial Studies is to sensitize and develop studies competencies in secretarial practices in different types of business and administrative organizations.
Some occupations that can be acquired from secretarial studies are:

  • Information Processing Manager/Specialist
  • Office Manager
  • Word Processing Supervisor
  • Word  Processing Operator
  • Secretary
  • Receptionist
  • Proof Readers
  • Data Entry Clerk

WORK EXPERIENCE
Every child reaching Grade eleven (11) is expected to complete eighty (80) hours of work in a recognized establishment or institution.  Every effort is made to place the student in an agency related to his or her option that is the skill area. The students are assessed over a two week period . They are assessed in the areas of work attitude and skill competence. Students are credited for the number of hours and the range of achievement attained over the period. This accreditation is reflected on the chi’s Secondary School Certificate.
Work Experience is a stepping stone to real time employment.
N.B.
Eighty (80) hours is a limited time however, impressive students have been invited to do additional hours during the summer and many h ave ultimately gained full time employment and career training.
